Albanian Names

Albania is a country that has been influenced by various cultures over the centuries including, Greece, Russia, the Ottoman Empire, the Byzantine Empire and Italy. They claim descent to the ancient Illyrians.

The country is 70% Muslim, 20% Albanian Orthodox and 10% Roman Catholic, as a result, Albanian names are rich and diverse, being borrowed from as far East as Saudi Arabia, North from Russia and South from Italy and Greece.

Albanians are extremely proud of their ancient heritage, so Albanians, especially in recent years, no matter their religious affiliation tend to favor ethnic Albanian names over Greek Christian names or Arab Islamic names.
